Fundraiser

We had a garage sale this past Saturday. Let me just start out by saying that it was COLD at 6 in the morning when we were setting up. Not as cold as it is for all of you in Canada ;-), but for us in California, it was a bit nippy.

This garage sale was a fundraiser for the adoption. I had signs up all over with a photo of Ryan, Shaina and myself thanking people for their support in helping us bring Shaina home. I also put an ad on Craigslist and mentioned that it was a fundraiser for an adoption.

We didn't have a lot to sell, mainly clothes and a few odds and ends. Not really any big ticket items. We didn't get rid of as much stuff as I expected and didn't raise as much money as I had hoped. But like Ryan said, it is better than nothing and anything we raise gets us one step closer to bringing Shaina home.

We are planning on having another big garage sale this spring or summer and will ask friends for donations of any items they want to get rid of. A friend, Denise, had a great garage sale that she blogged about a few months ago. I am going to take her advice and recommendations for our next garage sale and will hopefully make a lot more money for the adoption!

One special part of our fundraiser: my best friend's 7 year old son was so generous and donated some of his barely used toys to the garage sale. He was so sweet to do this, it brought tears to my eyes.

We are planning on doing a t shirt fundraiser and an American Doll raffle give away next year. Anyone have any other ideas for fundraisers? I would love to hear them!!

  1. Yeah... we would never even ATTEMPT a garage sale this time of the year in Canada! lol. It's a good start though... and hopefully the next one turns out better for you.

  2. Just found your blog and am reading through a bunch of posts. :) We are just starting the journey to adopt from Haiti as well! :) If you still need ideas for fundraising, check out http://www.flowerpowerfundraising.com/
Also, we contacted a local bounce house place that holds fundraisers and had one there.
I've also seen churches hold a dinner where people spoke about adoption.
    Good luck!!!
