CNN- Common Dreams

A few nights ago a friend, who is also adopting from Haiti, told me of a documentary by the CNN Freedom Project called Common Dreams. It features the actor/ rapper Common. He travels to Haiti to learn about the Restaveks in hopes that he will share their plight with his fans and they, in turn, will want to make a change.

I was finally able to watch the documentary last night.

It is heart wrenching.

Seeing the videos of Haiti, even though I have been there and experienced it myself, brought tears to my eyes. It is so heartbreaking to know so many people, so many children, live in such horrible conditions. To realize that many of these children cannot afford to go to school, yet have the desire to do so. Something we, and our children, take for granted.

There are so many things we take for granted here. We have so much "stuff".  We are so greedy.  These are the thoughts I am left with.

Then there are the Restaveks, many of them children. Their futures are bleak. Their present is bleak. Yet they carry on, they survive.

The documentary has a lot of info on different organizations dedicated to the Restavek poplulation. I think they are definitely worth taking a look at and learning more about how we can help.

Here is a link to the documentary:

Watch it and let me know what you think.

  1. Thanks for posting this link. It was very eye-opening, and so very sad! There is just so much need in Haiti - every way you look. So overwhelming.
